Quads, Picnic, and Fishing

We woke up this morning to go move cows from the north pasture to the south pasture. Kaiya and Madison went together, Kaelani and Mama went together. Granddad was on his own. We had a great couple hours rounding up all the cows and getting them moved. Then there were a few straggling calves that were very spry and did not want to go! After, we did a once over of the pasture to make sure we got all the cows. Sadly, we found one mother cow had died.  Kaelani was so anxious to tell Granddad. "Anddad, cow die. cow die" The rest of the day she talked about cows being died.

We made a run into Dubois to get ice cream and and a few small groceries. When we returned, Grammy and Granddad had gone someplace. So, we packed up a lunch and went for a quad ride up the North West side of the ranch. We stopped by the water tower (the one we had to roll thru the gate back in 2010).  We had a gorgeous view there of the entire ranch, and a bonus view of the Grand Tetons.

Gorgeous Girl!! She loved riding quads - girl after my own heart.

After our quad ride picnic lunch, we went back to the ranch house and decided to go fishing. We had not caught any fish the day before, and the girls were not having any luck. Madison had given up, and so Mama took her pole to give it a try.

There was a fish on the side of the pond that they girl had not been fishing that had jumped. So, I wondered over and started casting. I cast about 5 - 10 times. After a couple cast, the fish would jump but not take my bait. A couple of times it totally teased me and nibbled at my line. Then, I cast and that nibble turned into a hard on bite. It gave me a good fight!! I reeled it in . . . and just as I got it to the shore, it got off . . . luckily I snagged it right up.
Been teased by a fish once before and it got away.  This time I got the FISH!!
The fish was bleeding pretty bad from getting off the line, and we could not get it revived. So, it needed to be cleaned and eaten. Madison wanted to eat some of it . . . so, like the wise Aunt I am, I bartered! I told her I would share it only if she cleaned it. I thought that was fair -  earn your keep.

I had to talk her thru the cleaning process. All the while I took pictures of it! LoL! I can't wait for wen she is older to remind her of this memory! The future veterinarian was a little grossed out.

Grand Tetons as seen by the NorthEast water tower.
After we cleaned it, we walked down to start the camp fire for hot dogs, and s'mores. You won't believe what happened as we started cleaning up from dinner!! AMAZING!!!
