Fire! Fire! Fire!!

The idea of there being a fire in my house has been bothering me a lot lately! It started sometime ago, with just being worried that if Kaiya couldn't get out of the house in an emergency without me, what would happen!! Kaiya is a bit more self-help able than Kaelani . . . so my priority would be Kaelani based on independent ability. Then, there were the fighterfighter visit to my school, followed by a students house going up in flames, followed by that same day a house fire on the drive to dance, and finally the firemen coming to Kaiya class today!!

So, after showing me how they learned to put out fire on their clothes today (you know, the STOP, DROP, and ROLL), I decided it was time to make sure she knew how to get out of the house from her bedroom, or Kaelani's room, and for that matter even my room!! What does she do if she can't use the door!! So, we talked about it, looked at it, and Kaiya asked if she could try!! This may come back to haunt me when she is a bit older . . . . but, she now knows how to unlock her window (top and bottom locks), push screen out, climb out window, and open the gate to get out of the backyard!!

Opening top lock on window!

Climbing out window!

Pushing up latch on gate

Running to the meeting place

Waiting at the meeting place!
Kaelani doing her job, just looking cute!!

After learning how to escape the house in the case of any emergency, Kaiya wanted to swing in the backyard. I have some bugs trying to spin webs on my Italian Cyprus trees, so I had to spray them off. And of course . . . . that mean the water got away from me and sprayed the unsuspecting swinger . . . . I mean the pressure in the hose was just so strong I couldn't direct it properly . . . or wait, Kaelani grabbed the hose and sprayed her sister! That erupted into Kaiya wanting her swimming suit and a all out soaking of her as she "avoided it." Fun evening!!

Then, just cause I am feeling all in the spirit of being prepared . . . . can you guess who this is??

Yes, that would be little . . . okay not so little . . . but me!! When the fire department came to talk to the kids about fire safety, they had us teachers get dressed up in the "gidup" to show the kids there is a person and not to be scared!! I got to dress up (boots and all) in the morning presentation. Ms. Garcia got to dress up in the afternoon presenation!! All I can say is HOLY COW!! I would have dropped all my baby weight by now had I been lugging just that uniform around . . . . they had me carry one of my students to substitute the air tank . . . . . YIKES!!
